Redefining the Champagne Spirit

Thibaut and Frédéric d’Avella, two brothers animated by the search for aesthetics, reveal their multisecular domain’s soul creating singular champagnes that give life to an infinity of sensory experiences.

Nature as first inspiration

Each year, we wish to seize our vines individuality, in order to reveal their exclusive character.

In the family since 1725, each parcel is hand-cultivated as a precious garden, so as to preserve the richness of its biodiversity and its natural balance.

A Pinot Noir unique in the world

The multitude of its hills and sharp-sloped vineyards make of Les Riceys an exceptional land of wines. On its UNESCO World Heritage classified hillsides, the Pinot Noir develops a remarkable finesse and offers an aging capacity, necessary for the elaboration of great champagnes.

Creating Craftsman

Handicrafts are at the heart of our creations. We ensure a completely handmade work from the vine culture to the wines creation, up to the bottles labelling.
Our low interventionist vinification and a prolonged aging in French oak barrels of small capacities, provide the Baron d’Avella Champagne all its soul.

Champagne as Living Memory

The wine lives. The harmonies are created between the varietal fruit and the barrel wood. Time sublimates them.
Each Baron d’Avella bottle then reveals the unique alchemy of our localities and the light of a year.
Tasting becomes a real sensory experience tailor-made around plot vinification and the role of time in the wines evolution.

Soleris, Les Jardins and Les Temps, emblematic collections of the House, embody the Baron d’Avella spirit.

Valuing a confidential production, each bottle of Baron d’Avella is numbered.

A style as heritage

Driven by the search for excellence, guided by his faith and always faithful to his heart values, baron Federico d’Avella, deeply appreciated for his charisma, will remain one of the emblematic figures of the Champagne world.

Born in 1907, in Naples then Kingdom of Italy, baron Federico d’Avella moved to Paris in the 1930s to found, with his associates, the company “Bureau à Paris” Champagne Perrier-Jouët (B.A.P). He will make B.A.P. the Parisian leader in the distribution of exceptional wines and spirits (Perrier-Jouët Champagne, Hine Cognac, White Horse Whisky).

He married Miss Claude Garnier, heiress of the Perrier-Garnier House (fine wine merchants since 1864) and the family vineyard implanted in Les Riceys cru since 1725. He is seduced by his wife’s village and likes to make his friends discover it by receiving them on holidays and religious celebrations. Among his guests, Giuseppe Saragat, President of the Italian Republic, Louis Vaudable, owner of the Maxim’s restaurant, or the Clerico brothers, Lido and Moulin Rouge Parisian cabarets owners.

Deo et Familiae Semper Fidelis

Pope Jean XXIII, who likes to meet baron d’Avella at Les Riceys, is touched by his deep faith and his numerous actions with the poorest. He named him Chamberlain of the Sword and Cape of His Holiness, title that Paul VI will also confirm; the previous Pope having already made him Knight of the Order of Saint-Sylvester. For his services and his courage, the Italian government awards him the Commander’s medal of the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity, then makes him Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.

Baron d’Avella, like his father-in-law Pierre Garnier, emblematic figure of Les Riceys, was known for his generosity. He welcomed Chinese priest Jean Wang, a political refugee.

He loved to walk in the family vineyards. This is where started his desire to create and offer his elitist clientele a rare champagne that can express the Riceys terroir complexity. Unfortunately, the baron d’Avella disappears prematurely without being able to fullfil this dream. But two of his grandchildren, Thibaut and Frédéric, inhabited by the same passion, would decide to pay tribute to him by realizing this exceptional champagne baptized, Baron d’Avella.
